This is my improv version of ‘the way you look tonight.’  Mind you, I haven’t played the piano on a regular basis, so I’m just getting back into the swing of things.  However, it was great to play into the early hours of the morning to see what could come out of it.  I’ve always wanted to be that girl in the cool dress playing jazz and blues on an electric blue grand piano on the rooftop of a beach house at night, with the sound of waves crashing in the background, and people dancing under the stars.  Cheeeeeeesy, I know, but I think it would be awesome.

tonight was a lovely night with my buddies for BW4!  Glad to see friends I haven’t seen in a while; hope we can catch up even more soon, and stoked that this is an ongoing tradition.  Maybe one day we will go international?  Can’t wait :D  My friends are the best!

I also just found that I received the award that I applied for funding to go to South Africa, all expenses paid (airfare, transportation, meals, lodging, science mentorship, etc) this October.  I am honored that they selected me to represent the United States.  I am excited to share what I do at work and my research with the international space community.  I want to take what I learn from this Congress and empower underrepresented groups back home to become citizens of the space community.

It happened when I was wandering around Pike Place Market in Seattle today in the rain. That zen feeling.

To be zen is to realize that you are perfectly content on not dwelling on what could be, or who you could be with, or wondering why it seems like everyone at your young age of 22 is suddenly taken, engaged, or married, and that life may quite possibly have some element of fate, mixed with a series of coincidences, and that you should keep being who you are and doing what you’re good at, play with your passions, and approach your goals with conviction, poise, and confidence, and things will work out.

The right grad school will happen. The right career will shape itself based on what I’m doing right now.  The right guy - he’ll come around.  The world is mine to explore, and I’d like to leave my size 7 footprint on it in a lasting, relevant and positive way for current and future generations to come.

Stepping back from my workaholism to further focus on the loved ones right in front of me. Off to the Philippines tomorrow. Ready for long talks with my grandmother, my cousins, and the rest of the Pampangan community. Albeit a short, week-long trip, but one that is long overdue.

will potentially be in the Philippines this April to visit Malabon and Benguet to examine housing/slum issues, take part in a disaster mitigation project, visit NGOs, and most importantly, my grandmother.  Consulting JPL scientists and US State Dept. tmrw about health advisories in the Pacific Islands.
